Kebinatshipi Dethrones Ogazi as 400m World Leader as Africa Dominates 400m in Xiamen Diamond League

Reigning World 400m champion, Collen Kebinatshipi, has dethroned Nigeria’s Samuel Ogazi as the fastest 400m runner in the world so far this year.

The Botswana star ran 43.92 to win the event at the Xiamen Diamond League meeting on Saturday, pushing the Nigerian, who ran 43.95 to win the 400m SEC title last weekend, into second place.

Kebinatshipi’s time is not only the world lead but also a new meeting record.

It was Africa 1-2-3 in Xiamen, with reigning Commonwealth Games champion Muzala Samukonga of Zambia finishing second in 44.04, and South African Nene Zakithi third in 44.40.

The fourth African in the line-up, Ndori Bayapo of Botswana, finished fifth in 44.88, further proof of the continent’s dominance in the event.
