Kebinatshipi Eyes 200m, 800m After Conquering 400m

Botswana’s Collen Kebinatshipi is already looking beyond the 400m, with the newly crowned world champion revealing ambitious plans to eventually take on the 200m and even the 800m.
The 22-year-old has enjoyed a remarkable season, winning a global 400m title, securing the World Athletics Ultimate Championship crown and breaking the 44-second barrier six times.
But Kebinatshipi insists he is not ready to stop there.
The Botswana star says he wants to complete his remaining goals in the 400m before moving down to the 200m, and then potentially making the huge jump to the 800m.
‘If we achieve what we want to achieve… I’m gonna move to the 200m,’ Kebinatshipi said.
‘Then after achieving what I want from the 200m, I can skip again and go to the 800m.’
Kebinatshipi’s plans would represent a remarkable expansion of his ambitions, considering the 400m already demands a combination of speed, strength and endurance at the highest level.
His performances this season, however, suggest he has plenty of confidence in his ability to take on new challenges.
With his 400m objectives still to be completed, Kebinatshipi is in no hurry to abandon the event that has established him as one of the sport’s rising global stars.
But once he feels he has achieved everything he wants over one lap, the Botswana sensation could embark on an intriguing journey through the 200m before testing himself over the two-lap 800m.
For a 22-year-old who has already enjoyed such an extraordinary season, Kebinatshipi appears to believe his best may still be ahead of him.
