Kelechi Iheanacho fires AFCON warning shots at Super Eagles Group D Foes
Kelechi Iheanacho scored once and bagged two assists on his return to the starting line up for Leicester City in their 6-3 drubbing by Manchester City in a Premier League clash on Boxing Day.
In scoring and providing two assists, the 25 year old made history as the third player to both score and assist in a single Premier League game against Man City having previously appeared for them in the competition, after Paul Dickov for Leicester in 2003 and James Milner for Liverpool in 2016.
It was Iheanacho’s first Premier League goal in seven appearances against the Cityzens and the first time he would bag two assists and score in a game since he made his Premier League debut in August 2015.
It was also the Nigerian’s first Premier League goal since he netted in the 2-2 draw at Selhurst Park against Crystal Palace early October.
The goal is also his 35th in 155 appearances in the competition which moves him closer to equalling the 136 scored by Peter Odemwingie and in the process becomes the joint ffith top Nigerian scorer in the history of the competition.
His two assists also draw him level with Alex Iwobi on 19 as the joint fourth Nigerian assist provider in the Premier League, just one shy of Shola Ameobi who sits in third position in the Nigerian all-time assist list.
