Kelechi Mejuobi Assumes Leadership of NFRA After Zubairu’s Passing

The Nigeria Football Referees Association (NFRA) has confirmed Honourable Kelechi Mejuobi as Acting President of the Association following the passing of its National President, Honourable Sani Zubairu (FIFA RTD).

The announcement was made during an emergency meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and State Executive Committees (SEC) held online on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.

In line with the NFRA Statute, Mejuobi, who had served as Deputy President, will complete the tenure of the late President.

In his acceptance remarks, Honourable Mejuobi expressed gratitude to members of the Association for their confidence in his leadership at such a critical time.

‘I am humbled by the trust reposed in me to fill the vacuum created by the passing of our dear President,’ he said. ‘I pledge to provide open, diligent, and passionate leadership, working hand in hand with all members to achieve the objectives of our Association.’

He further reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining the reform initiatives conceived with the late President under the ‘Rediscover NFRA Agenda.’

‘We will continue to rebrand, reposition, and reform the NFRA for greater efficiency and relevance in Nigerian football. This is the best way to honour the legacy of Honourable Sani Zubairu,’ Mejuobi added.

The meeting concluded with members renewing their commitment to professionalism, unity, and service in honour of the late President, while expressing confidence in Mejuobi’s ability to steer the Association forward.
