Kenya’s Kibiwott Kandie Provisionally Suspended After Doping Control Charges

Kenyan long-distance runner Kibiwott Kandie, once celebrated as the half-marathon world record holder, has been provisionally suspended following a Notice of Charge issued by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU).

Kandie faces allegations of Evading, Refusing or Failing to Submit to Sample Collection, alongside an additional violation for Tampering or Attempted Tampering with Doping Control.

The 30-year-old athlete rose to prominence after clocking 57:32 at the Valencia Half Marathon in 2020, a then-world record.

His career highlights include a World Half Marathon silver medal, a Commonwealth Games 10,000m bronze medal in 2022, and victories in Ras Al Khaimah, Prague, Istanbul, and multiple Valencia Half Marathons.

Kandie also boasts personal bests of 26:50 for 10km and 2:04:48 in the marathon.

Under the World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules, a Provisional Suspension prevents an athlete from competing until a final decision is reached at a disciplinary hearing.

Kandie’s case now places his decorated career in jeopardy as he awaits the outcome of the proceedings.
