Kenya’s most successful African country at World Athletics Relays
Kenya is the most successful African nation and fourth best in the world in World Athletics Relays history, SportsNow can report.
The Kenyans, winners of the 2015 World Athletics Championships in Beijing, China have always been the number one track and field nation in Africa in global rankings and are among the best in the world.
The east African nation has won three gold, six silver and two bronze medals at the World Relays.
They have produced one fourth place finish, three fifth place finishes, two sixth and one eighth placed finish to accumulate a total of 102 points in World Athletics’ placing table for the event.
Nigeria is ranked the second best African nation and 16th best in the world after winning a 4x200m gold, a 4x400m bronze, one fourth and fifth place finish and three seventh placed finishes for a total of 29 points.
Interestingly, Nigeria have topped Kenya several times at the African Championships and the African Games ostensibly because the Kenyans have always sent their second and at times third best athletes to the competitions but Nigerians jubilate the victory when their main focus should have been how to be counted among the best in the world.
Meanwhile, Nigeria will not be bothered about how they finish in Nassau, Bahamas this weekend when the World Relays hold.
Nigerians will be more concerned with getting the Olympic tickets for all five relays as this year’s edition serve as qualifiers for the Paris Olympic with 14 of the 16 slots available for the Games to be filled this weekend.
