Kipyegon and Duplantis going to Paris 2024 Olympics as World Number One

Faith Kipyegon and Armand Duplantis will not only be going to the Paris Olympics to defend their respective 1500m and Pole Vault title but also as the number one ranked athletes in the world.

Kipyegon, who is going for a hat-trick of 1500m titles at the Paris 2024 Olympics has moved to the top of the women’s overall ranking after setting a new 3:49.04 world record in the event at the Meeting de Paris Diamond League meeting held at the Stade Charléty in Paris on July 7, 2024.

The Kenyan, ranked third behind sprinter, Shericka Jackson of Jamaica and the Flying Dutchwoman, Femke Bol of the Netherlands at the end of last month, gained 56 points to move her total ranking score from 1508 to 1564, six more than Jackson in second and 27 more than Bol in third.

Duplantis has been the undisputable world number one since September 19, 2023 when he moved above Shot Putter, Ryan Crouser and the Swede is predicted to successfully defend the title he first won three years ago in Tokyo, Japan.
