Kipyegon gets wild card to compete in Brussels!
Three-time Olympic gold medalist Faith Kipyegon has been given a wild card to compete at the Diamond League final in Brussels, Belgium next month.
The Kenyan is scheduled to compete at the Golden Gala Diamond League meeting in Rome on Friday and could seal her spot in the final at the Olympic stadium in Rome but organizers of the Allianz Memorial Van Damme on 13 and 14 September at the King Baudouin Stadium are desperate to have the five-time Diamond League trophy winner race in Brussels.
Kipyegon has now joined a growing list of Paris 2024 Olympics champions who have been granted wild cards to compete in Brussels.
Others are Moroccan, Soufiane El Bakkali, the double Olympic champion and reigning world champion in the men’s 3000m steeplechase, Haruka Kitaguchi, the Japanese Olympic and world champion in the javelin throw, and Yemisi Ogunleye, the German gold medalist from Paris in the shot put who, aside the wild card, has sealed her spot by placing third in the rankings.
World’s fastest woman and Olympic champion, Julien Alfred, Africa’s first Olympic 200m champion, Letsile Tebogo, who will attempt to complete a sprint double, the double gold medalist Beatrice Chebet and five more Olympic champions Emmanuel Wanyonyi (800m), Winfred Yavi (steeplechase), Mondo Duplantis (pole vault), Jakob Ingebrigtsen (1500m), Yaroslava Mahuchikh (high jump) will also be in Brussels.
