Kipyegon to kickstart Diamond League title defence in Doha
Amusan may also return to seek her first win at the season opener meeting
Two-time Olympic and world champion, Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon will headline the women’s 1500m at the Wanda Diamond League season opener in Doha on May 5th.
Arguably the greatest female 1500m runner of all-time, 29 year old reigning Diamond League champion will also launch her title defence at the Meeting.
Kipyegon ran the second-fastest 1500m time ever in Monaco last summer (3:50.37) and holds seven of the 20 fastest times in history.
She is also the athlete with the most sub-four minute performances.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s reigning world 100m hurdles champion may also kickstart her bid for a third straight Diamond League title in Doha.
With the 100m hurdles on the ‘menu’ at the meeting, Amusan could return for the third time in four years after making her debut there in 2019.
She was second (12.73) behind Jamaica’s Danielle Willaims (12.66) that year and was second again when she returned there three years later, precisely last year when she ran 12.44 behind then reigning world record holder, Kendra Harrison (12.43).
Amusan has won the 100m hurdles Diamond League trophy for two straight seasons and the Nigerian will be seeking to confirm her growing profile as one of the greatest of all time in the event by winning the trophy for the third straight year.
