Korea coach warns Falconets: We are not in Colombia for fun

Park Younjeong, coach of South Korea’s U20 team says she and her girls are in Colombia at the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup to wow the world with their brand of football and end as champions.

The South Koreans will open their campaign against the Falconets of Nigeria on Monday at the Estadio Metropolitano de Techo in Bogota and Younjeong, the youngest coach at any level in South Korea to handle any national team tells FIFA.com she wants the world to watch her girls and say they are really good.

‘Our goal is to improve with every game. I want people who watch us for the first time to say, ‘Whoa, they can really play.’ Then, it’ll be up to us next to convince them to say, ‘Oh, maybe they’ll win.’ In the end, I want to leave the tournament after making them say, ‘Wow, they really won!’ The goal is to improve with each game,’ said Younjeong.

The 35-year-old says she wants people who ‘watch our games to feel that we’re a dynamic, attacking, team that not only entertains the spectators, but also ourselves, too. I told our players that we need to perform in a way that’ll make our fans look forward to our next game.’

The Taeguk Girls will however be up against a formidable Nigerian team that has impressed in past editions of the competition.
