LA 2028: Super Falcons Target Comoros to Set Up Morocco Clash
The 10-time African champions need to finish the job on Tuesday after winning the first leg 2-0.
Nigeria’s Super Falcons will look to complete the job against Comoros on Tuesday and advance to the third round of the African qualifying series for the women’s football tournament at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
The 10-time African champions take a 2-0 advantage into the second leg at Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo, following Friday’s victory secured by goals from defender Michelle Alozie and forward Uchenna Kanu.
Nigeria are seeking a second consecutive Olympic appearance after returning to the Games at Paris 2024, their first participation in 16 years.
Comoros’ failure to secure a CAF-approved venue for international matches has given the Falcons home advantage for both legs of the tie.
Interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen and his assistants could use Tuesday’s encounter to assess more players, having fielded a strong starting line-up in the first leg.
Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie started on Friday behind wing-backs Alozie and Glory Ogbonna, with Christy Ucheibe and Shukurat Oladipo in central defence.
Debutant Joy Igbokwe, Toni Payne and Jennifer Echegini featured in midfield, while captain Rasheedat Ajibade, Gift Monday and Kanu led the attack.
Young goalkeeper Christiana Uzoma could be considered for the return fixture, while defenders Farida Abdulwahab and Tumininu Adeshina are also available.
Suliat Abideen impressed after coming on in the second half on Friday and could earn a starting role, while former U17 captain Shakirat Moshood and Folashade Ijamilusi are among the attacking options.
Blessing Nkor, Blessing Okpe, who both play in Belarus, and Sweden-based forward Joy Omewa could also feature as the coaching crew considers changes.
Victory over Comoros would set up a third-round encounter against Morocco in March 2027 as Nigeria continue their pursuit of a place at the Los Angeles Games.
