Leicester City Vs Newcastle: Iheanacho targets third Boxing Day goal

Kelechi Iheanacho will be seeking to bouncing back to reckoning at Leicester City when the Premier League resumes on Boxing Day.

The Nigerian, 26, was reduced to a bit-part player before the 2022 FIFA World Cup break, starting just one of the 10 Premier League games he has featured in, scoring

also just once which was achieved in early September.

The former Manchester City player will be hoping to re-start this term with a goal when Leicester City host Newcastle at the King Power stadium on Monday.

If he scores, it will be his third Boxing Day goal after scoring against Hull City in December 2016 and Manchester City on the same date in 2021.

Interestingly, Iheanacho is the only Nigerian player among the seven playing in the Premier League this season who has scored on Boxing Day.

A goal for the Nigerian on Monday will be his second against the Magpies in seven Premier League encounters. He scored his first in May last year in the Foxes’ 4-2

loss to the visitors at the King Power stadium.

Iheanacho has started 70 of the 178 appearances he has made in the competition since he made his debut in August 2015 and has been subbed on 108 times. He has scored

38 times and bagged 21 assists.

Meanwhile, Iheanacho’s Nigerian compatriot at the club, Wilfred Ndidi will be hoping he gets an injury free second half of the season and a quick return to form.
The 25 year old was an unused substitute when the Foxes defeated MK Dons 3-0 in a Carabao Cup tie last week.

If he gets to play and start on Monday, it will be his eighth start in 11 games this season and 167th start in 176 games since he made his debut in January 2017.
