Leno Beats Bassey to Fulham’s Man United Legend of the Match Award

Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno has been voted the Royal Caribbean Legend of the Match following Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Craven Cottage.

Leno produced several important saves to keep Fulham in the game but was denied a clean sheet when Matheus Cunha’s deflected effort found the net in the closing stages.

The German was the overwhelming winner of the supporters’ vote, securing 72.5 per cent of the votes.

Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey finished second with 8.5 per cent, while Josh King was third with 5.7 per cent.

Speaking after the match, Leno admitted that the late equaliser made the result feel like a defeat.

‘It feels a bit like a loss. Everyone was trying to defend our goal to bring that result over the line, but that’s football,’ Leno said.

He added: ‘We’ve learnt from the first two games I would say. Now we have much better balance and you can see it’s hard to create chances against us and score goals against us. The results will come.’
