Lookman off to AFCON in style, says: ‘I will miss Bergamo’
Ademola Lookman was the hero for Atalanta who defeated Leece 1-0 at the Gewiss stadium in a Serie A matchweek — tie.
The Nigerian scored the only goal of the match and may be his last goal in over a month following his expected involvement in next African Nations Cup with the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
Lookman, who has been involved in the joint-most home goals in Serie A this season: eight (six goals and two assists), alongside AS Roma’s Paulo Dybala, believes his teammates will keep the flag flying in his absence.
He told DAZN after the game: “This victory is important for us, last week we didn’t win and today we should have done so. Gasp worried about my absence in the Africa Cup of Nations? We have a good team, great players: I’ll leave, but my teammates know they can do a great job and I have great faith in them. I will miss Bergamo, it’s a quiet city: I haven’t left, but I can’t wait to return already.”
The 26 year old has now scored seven goals in 18 matches in the Serie A so far this term with six of them coming at the Gewiss stadium in Bergamo.
