Lookman’s Fit and Ready for Arsenal Clash, Says: Simeone Has Made Me a More Complete Player

Ademola Lookman has credited Diego Simeone for transforming him into a more complete player as Atletico Madrid prepare to face Arsenal in the Champions League semi-finals.

Speaking at a club press briefing after training on Monday, the Nigerian-born midfielder expressed his excitement about the upcoming tie and reflected on his development since joining the Spanish giants.

‘Atlético is one of the best clubs in the world, with top players, the team is amazing, the fans too. It’s a pleasure to play here. The confidence of the coach and teammates makes you more confident. That’s what we have to do,’ Lookman said.

The London-raised star admitted the clash with Arsenal carries special meaning.
‘For me it’s emotional. I grew up in London. The first time I faced them was with Charlton when I was a child. Being from London it is a very special match. What I want is to win.’

Lookman highlighted the influence of Simeone on his game, noting improvements in his defensive work and intensity.
‘In every way. My defense is better. I’m more intense, more backward-looking. I think I’m a more complete player,’ he explained.

Having missed recent matches, Lookman confirmed he is fit again and ready to contribute. He also underlined the importance of Atletico’s home support at the Metropolitano.

‘Having our fans behind us is special, the atmosphere at home, the energy it gives us. The first home game will be great, I hope they give us a lot of strength.’
