Louis Edem Invitational Basketball Championships: Rivers Hoopers through to semis

Rivers Hoopers have made it to the semi finals of the Louis Edem Invitational Basketball Championship after a 41-32 win over Ebun Comets on Wednesday.

Buchi Nwaiwa and Michael Daramola combined for 16 points to extend Hoopers’ unbeaten run to three games.

The first-three quarters ended in slim margins (8-7, 18-16, 28-25), but Hoopers ensured they remained in the lead going into the fourth quarter.

Nwaiwu who had a great game at both ends of the floor explained why he had a better game in the second half.

“I went with the tempo of the game in the first half. I was not flowing with the game and when I got into the second half I knew we had to take this game and not relent so I had to put all i could to make sure we win it.”

Ebun Comets had beaten the Port Harcourt club in February during the first edition of the Louis Edem Invitational tournament. Nwaiwu was not surprised at the way they were stretched by the Ayodele Bakare-led Comets team.

“When someone has beaten you before he comes with the mindset that you are beatable and they can do it again. We expected it, but we were just a bit laid back in the first quarter and we had to rally ourselves to avoid it happening again.”

The KingsMen will play their last group game against Ogun Warlord on Thursday.
