Maduka Okoye Finally Makes Watford Debut, Troost-Ekong Makes First Start
Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye finally made his Watford debut Tuesday evening when the Hornets hosted Milton Keynes Dons at the Vicarage Road stadium in a League (Carabao) Cup round two fixture.
Okoye joined Watford in January from Dutch Eredivise side, Sparta Rotterdam was loaned back to the club for the reaminder of the 2021/2022 football season.
The Nigerian however linked up with his new club at the end the season but has not featured in the five games the Hornets have played in the Skybet Championships following their relegation from the Premier League at the end of the last season.
The 22 year old was not listed for action in the first three games against Sheffield United at home which they won 1-0, away at West Brom which they draw 1-1 and at home to Burnley which they won 1-0.
He was however listed in the last two games viz the 1-1 draw at Birmingham and the gaolless draw at Preston North End but was left on the bench as an unused substitute.
Okoye now has an opportunity to prove he is better than first choice goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann.
Meanwhile, another Super Eagles star, defender Willaim Troost-Ekong made his first start for the club after featuring for only seven minutes in the Hornets’ 1-1 draw at West Brom early this month.
