Man City 1-0 Brentford: Onyeka misses chance for first EPL goal on 59th attempt

After his heroics at the African Cup of Nations, Frank Onyeka made his first start for Brentford Tuesday evening at the Etihad stadium where he and his side, Brentford fell to a narrow 1-0 loss to champions Man City in a re-arranged Premier League fixture.

The Nigerian was restored to the starting line up after coming on with just 27 minutes left to play in the Bees’ 4-1 demolition by Liverpool.

Onyeka had the chances to at least score his first goal for Brentford across all competitions but fluffled all with the first coming early in the game

Yoane Wissa was the provider of the chance for Onyeka who had space to run into but, with Kyle Walker chasing him down, his weak effort on goal was saved comfortably by Ederson.

The second opportunity came from a set-piece, a whipped Kristoffer Ajer cross found the head of Onyeka, but his aerial attempt was held by Ederson.

It was Onyeka who led the first attack after half-time, as he sped forward on the counter.

A quick burst forward and an exchange with Reguilón put the Nigerian midfielder in a good position inside the area, but his cross was overhit and went out of play.

Onyeka has now featured 66 times across all competitions with 59 in the Premier League but the 26 year old is still looking to score his first goal for the club he joined in July 2021.
