Marcelo and Modric test positive for COVID-19

Real Madrid have confirmed that Marcelo and Luka Modric have tested positive for COVID-19.

The Brazilian has regularly found himself on the bench lately, but the absence of the Croatian will be noticeable, particularly after his incredible showing in the Madrid derby last weekend.

“Real Madrid C. F. inform that our players Marcelo and Luka Modric have tested positive for COVID-19,” read Real Madrid’s statement.

Real Madrid next host Cadiz on Sunday, December 19, before taking a trip to face Athletic Club in Bilbao a few days after on Wednesday, December 22.

It is therefore expected that Marcelo and Modric will not be available for these two games after testing positive, so the first match they could return for is the fixture away at Getafe on January 2.
