McCoist: Rangers missing the quality and physicality of Bassey, Aribo and Balogun

Former Scotland international Ally McCoist says Rangers have been weakened with the departure of their three Nigeria internationals.

Midfielder Joe Aribo was sold to Soutahmpton in the Premier League while defender, Calvin Bassey went to Dutch Eredivise giants, Ajax for a club record fee.

Balogun, also a defender, was released following the expiration of his contract.

McCoist, a former Rangers player himself who also played for Sunderland, Kilmarnock and St Johnstone believes the departure of especially the three Nigerians have left Rangers very weak.

‘Rangers are missing the quality and physicality of Bassey, Aribo, Balogun by the way, and Patterson,’ he told BT Sport’s Scottish Football Extra.

Aribo featured 148 times for Rangers across all competitions. He scored 26 times and bagged 25 assists.

Bassey wore the Rangers shirt 65 times, scoring once and he provided six assists from his defensive position. He was yellow carded 11 times but was never sent off.

Balogun also featured 65 times for the club. He scored twice and bagged three assists. He got two red cards and was yellow carded eight times.
