MTN CHAMPS Season 4 Ends with Corona, ISL, Ogbogbo Baptist and Ado Girls Victorious
The curtain has fallen on Season 4 of MTN CHAMPS after four days of thrilling competition in Ibadan, with four different schools emerging as team trophy winners in the youth and cadet categories.
Corona School Agbara were runaway winners of the Youth Boys’ title, amassing 86 points thanks to their depth across events. Their dominance was highlighted by a clean sweep in the Triple Jump and strong performances from athletes like Ayatullahi Kareem, who reached the finals of both the 100m and 200m, earning Bronze in the latter.
Christ Church High finished second with 28 points, while Bodija International placed third with 20 points.
In the Youth Girls’ category, Ado Girls Onitsha claimed the crown with 51 points, led by Blessing Ukoha’s double GOLD in the Shot Put and Discus.
Despite fielding just three athletes, they delivered a remarkable team performance, with Bright Linus and Faith John adding crucial medals in the 400m and 800m. Faith Academy Gowon, powered by the Adesuyi twins, finished second with 44 points, while Queen of Apostles took third with 31 points.
Ogbogbo Baptist Grammar School secured the Cadet Girls’ title with 59 points, their relay strength proving decisive. Queen of Apostles and Ado Onitsha tied for second on 39 points, with Chigozie Faith Ndokwu starring for Ado Onitsha by winning GOLD in the 100m, 200m and Long Jump.
ISL Lagos emerged champions in the Cadet Boys’ category, scoring 55 points. Jesudemilade Ojo was their standout performer, winning GOLD in the 100m and 200m and contributing to their Silver in the 4x100m relay. Corona School Agbara finished second with 33 points, while Anwarul Islam Iseyin placed third with 20 points.
The Junior team trophy was a fierce battle between No Sweat and Team MTN. No Sweat’s strength in the field events carried them to victory with 95 points, edging Team MTN who finished with 85. Favored Stars came third with 65 points.
In the Senior category, Team Customs dominated with 88 points, highlighted by Maria Thompson’s victory in the women’s 100m and a rare tie in the men’s 100m between Enoch Adegoke and Chidera Ezeakor.
Eaglesight Athletics Club finished second with 79 points, while Benin athletes placed third with 59.
MTN capped the grand finale by awarding monetary prizes to the top four schools: Corona School Agbara received ₦2,000,000, Ogbogbo Baptist Grammar School ₦1,500,000, ISL Lagos ₦1,000,000, and Ado Girls Onitsha ₦500,000.
