Napoli Vs Lazio: Osimhen guns for Simy’s Serie A single season goal record of 20
Closes on George Weah' s record as top scoring African in Serie A history
Napoli forward Victor Osimhen needs just one goal Friday night to equal his compatriot, Simy Nwankwo’s record of top scoring African in a single Serie A season.
Simy scored 20 goals in the 2020/21 season for Crotone to become the highest scoring African in a single Serie A season.
Osimhen has scored 19 goals in just 20 appearances in the competition so far this term and a goal against Lazio who visit the Estadio Diego Armando Maradona Friday evening in matchweek 25 Serie A game will draw Osimhen level with his compatriot who now plays in the Serie.
If Osimhen scores once, it will be his second goal in four appearances against Lazio and 20th in 21 games. It will also be his 50th in 88 matches across all competitions for Napoli since he switched Ligue 1 side, Lille for the Serie A in September 2020.
It will also be his 44th in 72 Serie A games which will bring him closer to the 46 George Weah scored for AC Milan to become the top scoring African in Serie A history.
The goal will also be the 40th he will be scoring in 58 games across all competitions for current Napoli gaffer, Luciano Spalletti. The 24 year old scored 10 in 30 appearances for Gennaro Gattuso, his first coach as a Napoli player.
Last weekend, Osimhen became the second youngest player (24 years, 58 days) in the three points for a win era to find the net in eight Serie A games in a row, behind only Roberto Muzzi (23 years, 165 for Cagliari in 1995).
