National Council of Sports Moves to Safeguard Athletes with New Insurance Policies
The National Council of Sports has unveiled new measures designed to enhance athlete safety through improved insurance coverage and streamline the organization of national sporting events.
The announcement followed the Council’s meeting held on Friday at the Kashim Shettima Hall, State Library Complex, Calabar, Cross River State.
In its communiqué, the Council emphasized the growing importance of addressing emerging risks in sports and underscored the need for adequate insurance protection for athletes, officials, and sports facilities during national competitions.
It noted that proper insurance safeguards are now essential to protecting participants and preserving the integrity of sporting events across the country.
The Council also resolved to reduce the number of sports featured at the National Sports Festival. To this end, the National Sports Commission, in collaboration with the National Sports Federations and the Forum of State Directors of Sports, has been directed to take the necessary steps to implement the decision.
The meeting brought together key stakeholders from across Nigeria to review policies and chart a course for improved sports administration. The resolutions reached reflect the Council’s commitment to strengthening safety standards, promoting efficiency, and reinforcing the framework for sports development nationwide.
