NBBF President, Kida Congratulates D’Tigress After Statement Win Over Philippines

Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) President, Engr. Ahmadu Musa Kida, has praised the resilience and class of D’Tigress following their emphatic 101-84 victory over the Philippines in Group A of the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup Qualifiers in Villeurbanne, France.
Kida described the performance as ‘very impressive’ and a reflection of the team’s trademark determination and panache.
‘Nigerians are happy with your impressive performances so far, as it resonates your incredible talents and determination to continue to make the country proud,’ he said.
‘You took the unfortunate loss to South Korea as a mere blip and rebounded with aplomb. And thus, reassuring Nigerians that you’re ready for the tasks ahead, as you continue to prepare for the World Cup in Berlin, Germany.’
The NBBF President urged head coach Rena Wakama’s squad not to relent, stressing that the federation remains committed to supporting basketball development across all levels in Nigeria.
On the court, D’Tigress showed their championship pedigree. After trailing 21-26 in the first quarter and 21-25 in the second, Nigeria stormed back with a dominant 34-21 third quarter and a 25-12 fourth quarter to seal the win.
The game featured 12 lead changes before Nigeria’s depth and rebounding power turned the tide.
Victoria Macaulay led the second half surge with 16 points, six rebounds, five assists, and two blocks. Murjanatu Musa nearly recorded a triple-double with 10 points, 12 rebounds, and eight assists, while Nicole Enabosi added 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Elizabeth Balogun and Ifunanya Okoro provided crucial scoring bursts during Nigeria’s third-quarter rally.
