Nene Wins First Diamond League 400m in Stockholm, Eyes Faster Times in Paris

South African sprinter Zakithi Nene claimed his first-ever Diamond League victory in the men’s 400m, clocking 44.48 seconds in a memorable performance against a strong field.

Nene described the win as ‘crazy’ and ‘very special,’ highlighting the significance of breaking through at this level.

‘It’s crazy to have won my first Diamond League race, it’s a very special win for me here today and against a strong field so I’m happy,’ he said after the race.

The 26-year-old praised the atmosphere in Stockholm, despite challenging conditions.

‘I really like Stockholm with its nice crowd and the track was nice, too but it was a shame it was so windy,’ he added.

Nene revealed he has been battling Achilles problems but remains determined to push forward.

‘I’ve had a solid start to my season, but I’ve been battling Achilles problems, unfortunately. Paris will be my next competition and with no major championships for me this summer, it’s all about trying to run as quick as possible.’
