New Zealand Hand Nigeria Second Defeat in Commonwealth Games 3×3 Basketball

Nigeria suffered a second consecutive defeat in the men’s 3×3 basketball competition at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games after losing 21-10 to New Zealand in their Pool A encounter at SEC Hall 4 on Friday evening.

New Zealand took control of the contest from the outset and reached the winning target of 21 points, while Nigeria managed just 10.

Te Tuhi Lewis led the winners with eight points, while Christian Martin added seven and Joshua Book contributed five.

For Nigeria, Robert Ukawuba and Esosa Okundaye scored three points each, while Marcel Esonwune and Ikechukwu Sean Nwamu added two apiece.

The defeat came after Nigeria had earlier lost 21-15 to Australia in their opening Pool A match.

New Zealand’s victory leaves Nigeria still searching for their first win in the competition as the pool stage continues.
