NFF Celebrates Iwobi’s Historic Premier League Milestone

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has congratulated Alex Iwobi after the Super Eagles midfielder reached 328 Premier League appearances, drawing level with Egyptian star Mohamed Salah as the joint-second most-capped African player in the competition.
Iwobi achieved the milestone on Saturday when he featured for Fulham in their 1-0 victory over Coventry City, moving within 25 appearances of the African record held by former Ivory Coast defender Kolo Touré.
Acting NFF General Secretary, Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme MON, praised the 30-year-old for his achievement and expressed hope that he would go on to set a new record.
‘The NFF celebrates Alex Iwobi for this new achievement and we wish him even greater glory. We will be very happy to see him become the African with the most appearances in the Premier League in the near future,’ Ikpeme said.
Touré, the former Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool defender, holds the record with 353 Premier League appearances, leaving Iwobi 25 matches short of surpassing the Ivorian legend.
Iwobi’s latest achievement adds to his growing list of milestones in a career that has also seen him earn 100 caps for Nigeria. He reached that international landmark during the Super Eagles’ friendly against Portugal in Leiria earlier this year.
The midfielder has also won two bronze medals and a silver medal with Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Against Coventry, Iwobi played for 73 minutes, registering 60 touches and completing 51 passes at an accuracy rate of 86.3 per cent.
