Nigeria Vs Ireland: Super Falcons and Oshoala seeking to make World Cup history

Nigeria’s Super Falcons and star player, Asisat Oshoala will be seeking to make history when they face the Republic of Ireland in their final group game on
Monday in Brisbane.

The Falcons will not only be aiming to complete an unbeaten group stage for the very first time in their pariticipation in the tournament since 1991, they
will also be seeking to equal or surpass the most goals scored by the team in the history of the tournament.

The Super Falcons have netted three times in the Group B so far, their most in the first round since 1999 when they scored five (level with 1995).

Oshoala will also be seeking to be the Nigerian with the most goals in the history of the competition if she scores on Monday morning (Nigeria).

The Barcelona FC player’s strike against Australia in the Falcons’ 3-2 win is her third in three tournaments to equal the number of the most goals scored by
a Nigerian in the history of the competition.

Oshoala is now level with Rita Nwadike who scored in 1995 and 1999 and Nkiru Okosieme who netted three times in 1999 to hold the record of the top Nigerian
goals scorer in a single edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Two strikes by Oshoala on Monday can make her the outright Nigerian top scorer in the history of the tournament as well as equal Okosieme’s feat as top
scorer in a single edition of the competition.
