Nigeria’s 2030 Commonwealth Games bid gains momentum as Evaluation Committee visits Abuja
The National Sports Commission (NSC) has reaffirmed Nigeria’s unwavering commitment to host the first-ever Commonwealth Games on African soil in 2030, as the country welcomed the Commonwealth Sport Bid Evaluation Committee to Abuja for a pivotal stage in the bidding process.
NSC Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko led the reception, emphasizing Nigeria’s readiness and ambition to deliver a world-class Games.
Dikko highlighted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s personal dedication to the bid, calling it ‘a major step toward inclusivity in the Commonwealth sporting community.’
‘We are delighted to host you in Nigeria and showcase our beautiful capital city and its facilities,’ Dikko said. ‘President Tinubu sees the 2030 Games not just as a sporting event, but as a celebration of Nigeria’s rising influence in global sports.’
The delegation’s visit was further endorsed by Chief of Staff to the President, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, who hosted the Commonwealth officials on behalf of President Tinubu.
The meeting drew high level participation from nine members of the Federal Executive Council, including ministers overseeing youth, culture, women’s affairs, environment, and media.
The visiting Commonwealth Sport delegation included Darren Hall, Director of Games and Assurance, Ann-Louise Morgan, Director of Sport and Ezera Tshabangu, Regional Development Manager for Africa and Europe.
