NIS Restarts Academic Activities to Build Next Generation of Sports Professionals
The National Institute for Sports (NIS) has resumed full academic activities for its Basic Certificate Course across three strategic centres in Nigeria, marking a major step in its efforts to strengthen sports education and human capacity development.
The programme is currently ongoing at the South-South Centre in Edo State, the North-West Centre in Kaduna State, and the Athletes Development Centre in Abuja, as the Institute continues its drive to provide quality training opportunities for aspiring sports professionals across the country.
Under the leadership of Director General and Chief Executive Officer, Philip Shaibu, the NIS said the resumption reflects its renewed commitment to developing skilled coaches, sports administrators, physical education instructors and other professionals in line with international standards.
The Institute described the return of the programme as a significant milestone in revitalising sports education and creating a new generation of competent personnel capable of contributing to Nigeria’s growth and success in sports.
Since taking office, Shaibu has prioritised reforms aimed at repositioning the National Institute for Sports as a centre of excellence in sports education, research and professional development.
With academic activities now restored across the three centres, the NIS is expected to widen access to professional sports training while strengthening the workforce needed to support Nigeria’s sporting ambitions at national and international levels.
The Institute reaffirmed its commitment to producing highly trained sports professionals who will play key roles in advancing the country’s sporting development.
