Norwich seeking first Chelsea win in 28 years

Norwich City will be hoping the chaos at Chelsea can propel them to their first win over the West london side when both sides meet Thursday night in a Premier League fixture.

Chelsea was seized from owner Roman Abramovich by the UK Government on Thursday following his links with Russia President, Wladimir Putin who is accused of committing war crimes and genocide in the Ukraine.

Dean Smith’s side who are winless in their last 13 Premier League meetings with Chelsea since a 3-0 home victory in December 1994 under John Deehan will hope for that first win Thursday night.

The Canaries will be banking on Teemu Pukki who has scored 44 per cent of their 16 Premier League goals this season (7/16), the highest such share by a player in the competition in 2021/22 to achieve that victory.

However, Pukki has scored in more Premier League matches while ending on the losing side than any other Norwich player in the competition’s history.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have won their last three Premier League matches by an aggregate score of 7-0. They’ve not won four in a row without conceding in the competition since December 2016 under Antonio Conte.
They are also unbeaten in their four Premier League midweek contests this season (W1 D3).

Mason Mount has been involved in 10 of Chelsea’s last 17 Premier League goals against newly promoted sides (6 goals, 4 assists).

Indeed, since his first Premier League season in 2019’20, only Jamie Vardy (17), Mohamed Salah (16) and Son Heung-min (14) have more goal involvements against promoted teams than Mount (9 goals, 4 assists).
