Nottingham Forest 1-2 Arsenal: Awoniyi equals personal scoring record in the Premier League

Taiwo Awoniyi returned to Premier League action on Tuesday and scored in his team’s 2-1 loss to Arsenal at the City Ground.

The Nigerian had been out of action since he underwent a groin surgery last November and has missed Nothingham Forest’s last nine matches in the competition before returning as a second half substitute against Arsenal.

The 26 year old made it a scoring return albeit his strike proved a mere consolation.

Awoniyi has now scored in each of his last three Premier League appearances against Arsenal; against no other opponent has he scored more goals in the
competition than versus the Gunners. He also scored thrice against Southampton.

The Nothingham Forest player has now become the secong Nigerian player in Premier League history to score as many as three goals against Arsenal.

Only Yakubu Aiyegbeni scored more in the Premier League with his five goals in 13 matches.

Awoniyi has now moved above Peter Odemwingie who netted twice in five games against the Gunners.
