NPFL: Rivers United Go Top as Ikorodu City Match Bendel Insurance Draw Record

Rivers United moved two points clear at the summit of the NPFL table after a hard-fought 1–0 win over Wikki Tourist on Matchday 17.

Taofeek Otaniyi delivered the decisive moment in the 19th minute, latching onto a Samson Obi cross and lifting a superb lob over the goalkeeper to seal the club’s ninth win of the season.

The result not only extended Rivers United’s unbeaten run to nine games, but also marked their 11th clean sheet in 16 matches, a testament to their defensive resilience.

With just one loss all season, the Pride of Rivers now sit alone at the top of the log with 33 points.

Elsewhere, Ikorodu City were held to a goalless draw by Katsina United, their eighth stalemate of the campaign, a figure that now ties them with Bendel Insurance for the most draws in the league this season.

The result keeps Ikorodu third on the table with 29 points

Meanwhile, Rivers United travel to Kano for a rescheduled Matchday 5 clash against Barau FC on Friday, December 19, a fixture that could further solidify their title credentials.
