Odion Ighalo to consider surprise Newcastle move

Former Manchester United star Odion Ighalo is ‘seriously considering’ a shock return to the Premier League with a move to Newcastle.

Ighalo, 32, spent 12 months on loan at Old Trafford in 2020 after earning a surprise “dream-move” from Shanghai Shenhua, impressing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer enough in his first loan to earn a second spell with the club.

The former Watford striker currently plays for Al Shabab in Saudi Arabia, who he joined from Shanghai following the end of his United stint this year.

And with Newcastle fighting to avoid relegation, manager Eddie Howe is reportedly eyeing Ighalo as the man to bring some much-needed goals to his side.

Sky Sports News report Al Shabab have informally asked the forward whether he would be interested in a move to the Magpies.

While there has not yet been any contact made by Newcastle, it is understood Ighalo remains keen for a return to the Premier League.

Ighalo’s contract with the middle-eastern club runs out in summer 2023 after he penned a deal earlier this year.

Having just 18-months left on his contract could prompt Al Shabab to sell the Nigerian international in a last ditch attempt to raise significant cash from an ageing player, despite the fact he has been there for less than a year.
