Ofili set to make individual outdoor debut at the 2024 Battle of the Bayou
Onojuvwevwo faces Nse Uko in 400m, Godbless also in action in 100m
Nigeria’s 200m indoor and outdoor record holder, Favour Ofili will make her individual outdoor debut on Saturday at the 2024 Battle of the Bayou in
Louisiana.
The pretty 21 year old will compete in the first heat of the 100m event and has been drawn in lane four, sandwiched between Mikiah Brisco, the 2017 NCAA
champion in lane three and University of Mississippi’s McKenzie Long in lane five.
Ofili is starting her career as a professional athlete after forgoing her final year of eligibility last year and all eyes will be on the talented Nigerian
who is the only Nigerian to have dipped inside 22 seconds in the 200m outdoor.
She holds a personal best of 10.93 in the 100m and will be keen to make a statement as one to watch this year after running an inspiring 35.99 over the 300m
early last month.
It is not going to be just a Favour Ofilis show as a number of Nigerians will also be in action.
Tima Godbless who opened her collegiate outdoor campaign with an 11.24 run last week has been drawn in the second heat of the 100m event.
In the women’s 400m, Ella Onojuvwevwo and Imaobong Nse Uko have been drawn in the same heat while Oghenefejiro Praise will compete in the triple jump event.
In the men’s 100m, Godson Oghenebrume will be keen to start this same way he ran the 200m about a fortnight ago at the Hurricane Invitational, clocking 20.63
to place third.
The 20 year old clocked 9.90 lifetime best in the 100m last year and all eyes are on him to prove it was not achieved by happenstance.
