Ofili set to miss LSU Alumni Gold; Onojuvwevwo, Oghenebrume listed
Where is Favour Ofili?
That is the question agitating the minds of millions of Nigerian athletics lovers after the 20 year old’s name was conspicuosly missing in the Luoisiana State University, LSU’s list of athletes for the LSU Alumni Gold holding this Saturday at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium in Baton Rouge, Luosiana.
The Nigerian has not competed since she made her outdoor-season debut at the Battle on the Bayou on March 25. During the meet she ran in the women’s 4×100-meter relay, clocking a time of 43.27 seconds.
Ofili had an impressive indoor season headlined by her impressive 22.11 new African record in the 200m and a silver medal finish at the NCAA indoor championships in New Mexico last month.
The Commonwealth Games 200m silver medalist is not listed in any the 100m, 200m, 4x100m and the 4x400m events taking place at the LSU Alumni Gold meeting.
She is not among the four athletes (Thelma Davies, Tionna Brown, Morgan Smalls and Hannah Douglas) registered for the event by her school in the 100m event.
Interestingly, Ofili ran a wind-aided 10.90 in the event last year.
Ofili is not also in the 4x100m quartet (sprint hurdler Alia Armstrong, Leah Phillips, Tionna Brown and Thelma Davies) listed for the meeting while her compatriot, Ella Onojuvwevwo leads the 4x400m quartet that also include Montana Monk, Hannah Douglas and Shani’a Bellamy.
Meanhwile, Godson Oghenebrume has been registered to compete in the 100m and 4x100m events.
The 19 year old has competed twice outdoor this season, running a 10.13, a hundreth of a second off his 10.12 lifetime best at the Lloyd Wills Invitational and a new 200m personal best (20.92) at the Tom Jones Memorial in Gainesville, Florida last weekend.
