Ogazi moves to number three on Nigerian all-time list with an incredible 44.58 run, qualifies for Paris Olympics

Reigning African U18 200m and 400m champion, Samuel Ogazi made history as the ninth Nigerian man to run a sub-45 seconds in the 400m event Saturday night at the SEC Outdoor Championships in Florida.

The 17 year old’s 44.58 seconds run moved him to number three in the Nigerian all-time list behind Innocent Egbunike (44.17) and Emmanuel Bamidele.

The time has made him the Nigerian U18 and U20 record holder.

The University of Alabama undergraduate student has also become the African U18 record holder on account of his incredible run and has punched his ticket to the Paris Olympics .

He has become the first Nigerian man since 2016 to qualify for the 400m event at the quadrennial Games after Orukpe Erayokan.

Meanwhile, Ella Onojuvwevwo proved her incredible 50.57 run in the full lap race was not by happenstance after she posted another sub-51 seconds performance on Saturday.

The 19 year old ran 50.86 in the final of the event at the SEC Outdoor championships to finish ninth.
