Oghenebrume: Next stop is the World Championships in August
NCAA 100m silver medalist ready to rule the world in Budapest
Nigeria’s fastest man, so far, in 2023 and NCAA outdoor championships 100m silver medalist, Godson Oghenebrume says his sight is firmly fixed on August’s
World Athletics’ flagship event, the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
Oghenebrume has been in imperious form since the start of the season with the Nigerian setting lifetime bests in the 60m (6.60) and 200m (21.12) indoors and
in the 100m (9.90) and 200m (20.72) outdoor.
The 20 was the most consistent Nigerian sprinter in the USA collegiate circuit this year and missed winning the 100m gold at the NCAA championships by the
narrowest of margins (9.89 to 9.90).
Oghenebrume seems to have finally come of age and the Delta state born sprinter looks ready to end Nigeria’s 16 year wait for a 100m finalist in the blue ribband event and possibly Nigeria’s first medalist in the event.
‘Next stop world champs…Ik y’all impressed but u ain’t seen nun yet!,’ Oghenebrume tweeted on Monday holding the bib displaying his name.
The Nigerian seems to be telling the whole world: See the name, I will be the next big thing in world athletics.
The last time a Nigerian ran in the final of the World Championships was in 2007 at the Nagai stadium in Osaka, Japan when Olusoji Fasuba ran 10.07 to place fourth, the highest position ever attained by a Nigerian in the event.
