Oghenebrume tipped among 10 contenders for 2024 The Bowerman award

Godson Oghenebrume has been tipped among 10 athletes who will be competing for the men’s The Bowerman title after the Nigerian was named among the 2024 Men’s
Pre-season Watch List for the first time in his collegiate career.

The 21 year old who has become the ninth man from Louisiana State University, LSU to reach watch list status, according to NCAA journalist, Stan Becton, is
among 10 athletes who have shown the talent that can lead them to the top of collegiate track and field in 2024.

The Bowerman is an annual track and field award that is the highest accolade given to the year’s best student-athlete in American collegiate track and field.

Becton who joined NCAA.com in 2021 and has since served as an FCS, track and field, cross country and HBCU beat reporter. He has covered numerous NCAA
championship events, including the FCS Championship, DI Track & Field Championships and Men’s Frozen Four is conviced of Oghenebrume’s ability.

‘(Godson) Oghenebrume finished second in the 100m at outdoor championships and ran on the NCAA record-setting 4×100 meter relay squad for Lousiana State
University.Oghenebrume’s progression last season was impressive, and if he continues to run faster with each race, he’ll have what it takes to win the
Bowerman,’ wrote Becton.

Oghenebrume solidified himself as one of the top sprinters in the world during the 2023 indoor and outdoor seasons following his historic-collegiate
campaign.

He won bronze in the 60m event at the SEC Indoor Championships after running 6.58, the third-fastest time in LSU performance-list history.

It was however outdoors the Nigerian from Ughelli, Delta state truly showed his top credentials.

He finished second in the 100m finals at the NCAA Outdoor Championships with the second-fastest time in LSU performance list history of 9.90 seconds, just
.01 from the record set by Olympic sprinter Richard ‘Torpedo’ Thompson.

The time of 9.90 was his fourth sub-10 second time of the season and ranked third in Nigerian history, seventh in African history, and seventh in NCAA
history.

Prior to the NCAA Championships, Oghenebrume finished first to take gold in the 100m at the SEC Outdoor Championships with a time of 10.04 seconds.

Oghenebrume will be hoping he sets new records and wins all available collegiate titles as he bids to make history as the first Nigerian winner of the award which will be given in December .
