Ogoh Odaudu sets sights on Louis Edem tournament glory with Hoopers

Rivers Hoopers head coach Ogoh Odaudu is hopeful his team can redeem themselves with victory at the ongoing Louis Edem Tournament in Lagos.

The 2021 Nigeria champions failed to defend their title as they lost in the semi final of the NBBF Final 8 to Nigeria Customs last November.

With that disappointment now behind him, Odaudu says his target is to win the Louis Edem tournament and also use it to bed in his new players.

“This is the first tournament of the year, each team comes into a tournament to win, especially Rivers Hoopers. We don’t like losing but we will take every game as it comes but our ultimate aim is to win the tournament.

“This is a tournament to test us, it is not entirely a place where you can judge us to see what we can and cannot do.”

In their opening fixture of the Louis Edem tournament Rivers Hoopers overcame Spintex Knights 77-72.

Odaudu described the victory over Spintex Knights of Ghana on Tuesday as a “scrappy one”.

“We won but it was not the way we were supposed to play. It was our first game so it was scrappy unlike Spintex who were playing their second game. We will take the win and see how far we can go.”

The D’Tigers assistant coach who also used the game to showcase some of his new signings is confident they will deliver once they’re fully settled in the team.

Former Kano Pillars duo Chibuzor Njoku and Bolaji Emilagba, Abel Offia (Nigeria Customs) and Michael Daramola (Gombe Bulls) joined the KingsMen for the 2023 season.

“I am happy with the recruitment,” Oduaudu said. “It is going to be difficult to rate them by just one game. We will see what they will do in the next game but I like what I see.It is not perfect and I hope we will continue from there.”
