Ogunmokun storms 117th Millrose Games seeking to set another lifetime best at almost 35!
Former Nigeria champion in the 800m, Britany Ogunmokun will be seeking to set her second personal best of the season and sixth since January last year when she takes to the indoor track
of the Armory Track and Field Center in New York, USA on Saturday to compete in the 800m event at the 117th Millrose Games.
Like old wine, Ogunmokun, who will be 35 in May, has been getting better and better since last year and at the last count, has set five new lifetime best since January 19, 2024, when she ran 1:30.60 to set a personal best in the 600m indoors.
She followed up with another lifetime best eight days later when she ran 24.70 in the 200m. The following month, Ogunmokun ran 53.38 in the full lap race and this attracted the attention of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria who selected her for the African Games in Accra, Ghana.
In Ghana, Ogunmokun helped Nigeria to win the 4x400m gold in 3:27.29 which was the fastest time ever ran in a relay team she has been part of.
She switched focus to the outdoor season and also set a lifetime best in the 400m, running 52.63 in Philadelphia, USA.
This year, she has set another lifetime best, this time in the 60m at the Armory Track and Field Center, New York where she ran 8.25.
On Saturday, Ogunmokun, Nigeria 800m champion in 2011, will be keen to improve on the 2:07.74 personal best she set over the two full laps race 13 years ago at the College Station in Texas, USA.
Her time is the fifth fastest ever ran by a Nigerian in the event indoors and she could become only the fourth Nigerian to break 2:07 in the event she significantly improves her personal best.
Two Osheku Athletics Academy athletes, Abike Egbeniyi (2:03.65) and Ramot Abike Jimoh (2:04.97) are in the top two with Fatimoh Mohammed (2:06.41) third in the Nigerian all-time lis.
