Osimhen: ‘I’ve been one of the best players in my position, but I have things to improve on’

Victor Osimhen believes he needs to keep evolving although he feels he is one of the best number 9 in the world.
“I am the biggest critic for myself. I feel like I can do more. I score 1-2 goals in a game, but I think I can do more. I’m trying to improve myself. I’ve been one of the best players in my position, but I have things to improve on,’ said Osimhen on Mikel Obi’s podcast.
The 26-year-old revealed he did not have a good pre-season following the uncertainty that trailed his eventual loan move to the Turkish Super Lig last September.
‘I didn’t have a very good pre-season. Some things were complicated. I’m trying to get in full shape. Even if I don’t score or assist, I can still fight for my teammates. The only thing that matters to me is winning. I’m looking forward to the rest of the season.”
The Galatasaray star also spoke about his transfer to Galatasaray and says he has set his sight on winning the Super Lig title which will be his second league title ever after helping Napoli to their first Scudetto in 33 years in the 2022/23 season.
‘It’s a great club. One of the best clubs in the world. The best in Turkey. When I arrived, I felt it would be an incredible welcome. This is a big family. I feel privileged to be here. It’s great to be here. When we left Naples, I didn’t know that the plane was being followed by fans. I was very impressed. It was like a movie scene for me. It’s great to be here.”
Sharing the transfer process to Galatasaray, the Nigerian striker said, “When I thought about everything that happened, I had already made my decision. I just kept training and doing my job.’
Asked about his goals for this season, Osimhen said: “We have to give a lot of things to improve, but to be honest, we have to remember the quality of this team. Icardi is injured for the rest of the season. We have a strong staff. It doesn’t matter the goals I score.
‘I’m fighting for everybody. All I want is for Galatasaray to win. I want to win the championship with Galatasaray. It would be great to be back-to-back champions. If we win, I’ll be the happiest. I need to give a clear message to some people. This is a personal matter for me. I have to give it my all.”
Victor Osimhen has played 29 games for Galatasaray this season, scoring 23 times and provided five assists.
