Oji, Abinusawa Claim Ivy League’s Most Outstanding Awards

Two Nigerian freshmen delivered historic performances as the University of Pennsylvania closed out the Ivy League Indoor Track & Field Championships at The Armory on Sunday.

Jessica Oji was named the women’s Most Outstanding Field Performer after a record-breaking display in the shot put.

Her opening throw of 18.50m not only secured the gold medal but also shattered the Ivy League all-time record and established a new African record.

Oji’s dominance was underscored by four clean attempts, while teammate Angeludi Asaah claimed silver with a mark of 16.14m.

On the track, Fore Abinusawa emerged as the women’s Co-Outstanding Track Performer, sprinting to victories in both the 60m and 200m finals.

Abinusawa clocked 7.25 seconds in the 60m final and 23.30 seconds in the 200m, after breaking the Ivy League 60m record in the preliminaries with a blistering 7.22 seconds on day one.

Together, Oji and Abinusawa not only dominated their events but also etched their names into Ivy League history, showcasing Nigerian excellence on one of collegiate athletics’ biggest stages.
