Okezie shifts focus to 4x400m relays, grateful for Olympic Games experience

Reigning African Games 400m king, Chidi Okezie says he has shifted his focus to the 4x400m relay after he exited the individual 400m event on his Olympic Games debut.

The 30 year old ran 45.52 to come fourth in his first race at the Olympics but it was not enough to get him a place in the semfinals.

Okezie tried again in the Repechage round but he could not make it after running 45.92 to come in last in his heat.

Unpertubed, Okezie is grateful for the experience and will hope to help deliver Nigeria’s first Olympic 4x400m medal in 20 years.

‘From watching the Olympics to competing in them. Although I didn’t achieve the time I hoped for, I’m grateful for the experience. Thank you to everyone who watched my races and offered words of encouragement. Up next 4×400,’ wrote Okezie on his facebook page.
