Omanyala misses first Diamond League win by narrowest of margins in Paris

Ferdinand Omanyala’s bid for his first Diamond League win on his fourth attempt was denied by another American, Noah Lyles at the Paris Diamond League meeting on Friday night.

The Kenya has picked up a third place and second place finish in Rabat and Florence respectively to reigning World 100m champion, Fred Kerley and South Africa’s Akani Simbine.

With both Kerley and Simbine absent in Paris, Omanyala was tipped to win ahead of Noah Lyles, the reigning World 200m champion and Marcell Jacobs, the reigning Olympics 100m champion.

Omanyala however failed to win albeit he gave absolutely everything before losing by the narrowest of margins to Lyles.

The Kenyan ran 9.98 to come second behind Lyles who was a 100th of a second faster (9.97).

Omanyala, the world leader in the event so far this year with his 9.84 finish last month at the Kip Keino Classics in Nairobi, will take positives from the race as he hopes to transfer his African and Commonwealth conquest to the world stage in Budapest in August where the 19th edition of the World Athletics Championships will hold.

The 27 year old was a semifinalist in the blue ribband event in his debut at World Athletics’ flagship event in Oregon, USA last year.
