Omanyala seals deal with CFAO, becomes Toyota Ambassador

The car in front is always a TOYOTA. Ferdinand Omanyala wrote on X (formerly twitter)as the reigning Africa and Commonwealth Games champion seals a deal with CFAO motors to become an ambassador of the Toyota brand.

The 27 old who holds the African 100m record at 9.77 later confirmed to Kenya’s foremost daily newspaper, Daily Nation that he signed the deal in June.

‘Yes, I’m their brand ambassadoron a four-year contract. I signed the deal in June. Just announced it on Thursday. Of course, there is money involved’, the newspaper quoted him as saying.

In addition to the money, the sprinter says there is also a Toyota car to go with it.

Asked if he has started driving the car, he told Nations Sports: ‘Not yet. But, it’s a very good and powerful car.’.

Omanyala has taken Africa by storm since he returned to the scene after servind a ban for an anti-doping rule violation.

He served notice of his expected dominance of the African sprint scene in September 2021 when he scorched to a 9.77 finish in the 100m to break the 9.84 African record set barely two months earlier by Akani Simbine of South Africa.

He thus became the first and only African man to run inside 9.8 seconds over the 100m race.

Omanyala also dethroned Simbine as African 100m champion at the African Athletics Championship in Mauritius before leading the Kenyan 4x100m relay to their first ever gold medal in the event.

Later that year, Omanyala also became the first Kenyan since Seraphino Antao did in 1962 to win the 100m gold at the Commonwealth Game when he ran past Simbine to the gold medal in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

Omanyala will now set his sight on making further history at the Olympics in Paris, France next year as the first Kenyan to win a 100m medal in the hitory of the Games.
