Ondo State Athletes Set Sights on Glory at 2nd Niger Delta Games

Athletes representing Ondo State are brimming with confidence as they conclude their final training camp ahead of the 2nd Niger Delta Games, scheduled to begin on Friday, February 20, in Edo State.
The contingent, which returned to camp in Akure on Tuesday, described the atmosphere as focused and encouraging, with preparations intensifying as the competition draws near.
Footballers Ola Gabriel Temitope and Olamide Agbajeola expressed optimism about their chances, noting that the team had already switched into ‘competition mode.’
Temitope praised the organisation and support provided by the State Liaison Committee, highlighting the intensity of training sessions.
‘We are training everyday and everyone is taking it seriously. We want to make Ondo State proud. Football is the king of sports, and we want to make it big time,’ he said.
Agbajeola added that the camp had helped the players settle quickly, stressing that the motivation to represent the state was driving their determination.
Swimmer Mojisola Giwa echoed the sentiment, saying the athletes were in high spirits and ready to compete. She noted that the camp had improved fitness and teamwork, boosting confidence ahead of the festival.
‘The preparation has been good and we are grateful for the support. As for me, I am ready. I believe we will come back with medals,’ Giwa said.
The Niger Delta Sports Festival, sponsored by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and organised by Dunamis-Icon Limited, will feature athletes from nine Niger Delta states competing across 16 sporting events.
