Onojuvwevwo sets 400m lifetime best indoors, Nse Uko runs 53.74
Abasiono debuts for Auburn University
Barely 24 hours after running 24.11 to set a new 200m lifetime best indoors, Ella Onojuvwevwo stormed to another lifetime best in the 400m on Saturday at the Razorback meeting in Arkansas.
The 17 year old ran 53.57 in her first ever 400m indoor race to finish 18th in the final classification, two places ahead of Baylor University’s Imaobong Nse Uko who ran 53.74.
At the Texas Tech Open and Multis in Lubbock, Texas, National Sports Festival 400m hurdles queen, Abasiono Akpan ran 56.13 in the 400m flat in her debut race for her school, Auburn University. It was also her first race indoors.
Under the tutelage of Tobi Amusan’s coach, Lacena Golding-Clarke, Abasiono is expected to be the perfect replacement for the retired Ajoke Muizat Odumosu, the only Nigeria 400m hurdler to run in the final of the Olympics and the first and only one to run inside 55 seconds in the event.
