Onuachu Targets First Goal Contribution as Trabzonspor Face Amedspor
Paul Onuachu will have another opportunity to end his frustrating start to the 2026/27 season when Trabzonspor travel to face Amedspor in the Turkish Süper Lig on Monday.
The Nigerian striker has yet to register a goal or assist this season and will be eager to rediscover the scoring touch that saw him finish as one of the league’s leading scorers last campaign.
Onuachu has featured in Trabzonspor’s opening competitive fixtures, but his inability to make a direct contribution has become an early talking point around the club. Turkish reports say the 32-year-old has played 313 minutes across Trabzonspor’s four official matches without finding the net.
The visit to Diyarbakır could provide the towering forward with the perfect opportunity to break his duck.
Trabzonspor are looking to respond after their disappointing 4-0 defeat away to Ferencváros in the Europa League, while Amedspor have won one and lost one of their opening two league games, beating Erzurumspor 3-0 before suffering a 2-0 defeat at Kocaelispor.
Onuachu is included in Trabzonspor’s travelling squad for the encounter, confirming his availability for coach Fatih Tekke. The match will be played at Diyarbakır Stadyumu on Monday, August 31, with kick-off scheduled for 21:30 Turkish time (19:30 Nigeria time).
For Onuachu, however, the bigger objective will be personal. After carrying much of Trabzonspor’s goalscoring burden last season, the Nigerian will be hoping Monday’s encounter with Amedspor finally gives him the breakthrough he has been waiting for, his first goal contribution of the new campaign in his ninth appearance.
