Orban, Salah Set to Renew Battle for Süper Lig Golden Boot

Gift Orban and Mohamed Salah will resume their battle for the Turkish Süper Lig Golden Boot this weekend, with both forwards sitting joint-top of the scoring chart on seven goals as club football returns after the international break.

Orban will be hoping to add to his tally when Amed Sportive take on Gençlerbirliği on Saturday, while Salah and Trabzonspor face Samsunspor in another fixture as the race for the league’s top scorer award gathers momentum.

Nigerian forward Orban, on loan from German Bundesliga side Hoffenheim, has made an impressive start to life in Turkey, emerging as one of the league’s most prolific attackers this season.

Salah, meanwhile, has hit the ground running since joining Trabzonspor as a free agent. The Egyptian forward underlined his scoring prowess with a hat-trick in Trabzonspor’s emphatic victory over Galatasaray before the international break, strengthening his claim to the Golden Boot.

The pair are also opening up a contest with other leading scorers, including Eldor Shomurodov of İstanbul Başakşehir, Fenerbahçe’s Vedat Muriqi and Galatasaray’s Victor Osimhen, who have each scored six goals.

Osimhen returned to action on Friday after spending 35 days on the sidelines with a groin injury. The Nigerian striker has scored six times in five appearances and could quickly re-enter the race if he maintains his early-season scoring rate.

Trabzonspor’s Paul Onuachu, who finished last season as a joint-top scorer, has endured a slower start to the new campaign, managing two goals in six appearances. The Nigerian striker faces competition for a starting place ahead of Saturday’s clash with Samsunspor.

With Orban and Salah level on seven goals, the weekend fixtures offer both forwards an opportunity to establish an outright lead in the race for the Süper Lig Golden Boot.
